The Seedstars World regional event in Sydney took place over the long weekend, and was hosted by startup coworking community Fishburners. Seedstars World calls itself the world's most exclusive startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes. Founded by Alisee de Tonnac and Pierre-Alain Masson, Seedstars World is based out of Geneva, Switzerland and is supported by the venture builder Seedstars. After its first successful edition in 2013 across 20 cities, SSW expanded its competition to more than 30 countries. Regional winners will be invited back to Geneva to pitch for an equity investment of up to US$500,000. The regional events feature up to 20 startups who must prove their worth in six minutes of pitching time and withstand the questions from a local jury of experts and a Seedstars World representative. This year, SSW partnered with Fishburners, which hosted the event. Further support was provided by Optus-Innov8 and media partners BlogsRelease and Galixo. Benjamin Chong of Sydney Seed Fund, Optus-Innov8’s Lead Principal Alfred Lo, and Seedstars World’s Nellie Horn made up the jury panel. Murray Hurps, General Manager of Fishburners said, "The one thing I've seen consistently while overseas is that Australia has truly world-beating talent. It's incredible to see SSW working so hard to bring our talent, and that of other countries, to compete on a global stage." Winning 1st place was GoFar founded by Ian Davidson and Danny Adams (featured image), a device to monitor fuel heavy driving. The 2nd place winner Seed the Change was founded by Bryce York, a tree planting service for ecommerce shops and 3rd place went to Dextr founded by John Lambie, an ABC based keyboard for smartphones. As a regional winner, GoFar will be invited to Geneva in February to compete with all the other regional winners globally as part of Seedstars World Final Event. GoFar’s founder Danny Adams stated: “Thanks to Seedstars World, we can showcase our GoFar device on a global level. It’s an amazing opportunity and we at GoFar are thrilled.” -- Startup Daily recently interviewed Danny Adams about GoFar.
